My Treasure
Papa and Alia (niece)

The one where I sympathize

Busy week... busy, BUSY week.

Had lots of answer scripts to mark. I got a lot of footnotes in the scripts. Some begging me not to fail them (but their answers show that they know next to nothing on the subject I taught), some hinting for an 'A' eventhough they themselves said that they don't think they did too well for the exams, some bluntly 'bodek' (suck up) me with the "Cik Idayu is a good lecturer" line. The length students go to to secure good grades. But sometimes, I do tend to go lenient on these students. Not because their sorry-lines worked but because I believe that if they had the courage (and sanggup malu) to beg for their marks, they must really need it. Hey, I was a student once. I know that sometimes we do try hard... reeeeeeall hard. But things go wrong where we least expect it so a little help means a lot. But don't get me wrong, I don't simply give them marks for totaly incorrect answers. I just try extra hard to figure out what they are trying to say and where their answers are coming from. So, if I feel that they are remotely right, presto.. i give them a sympathy mark. And this goes for all students that after adding all their marks I find they get really low marks as well. I then recheck their papers, trying to find loopholes for extra marks. God, don't punish me for doing this. I try to be fair. I reeeeeeallly do.

The one with the question

I don't know how but I managed to trip and fall down twice in less than 24 hours. I'm such a klutz. Or maybe I have too many things on my mind lately that I no longer look or even notice where I step.

I have been so damned busy with everything... work, friends, life... Last Friday I had a helluva day. After work I went to gym. After gym I went to futsal. After futsal I went to the theater studio recording. Slept at 4am or so. Before I left for futsal my sister asked me "Kak Ayu, why are you doing this to yourself?" I was stumped. Why AM I doing this to myself. I mean, I could do without the hustle and bustle of all these extra commitements. I was happy even before my life suddenly became a burst of activities. And I am happy now. Whichever way I twist and turn it, I am just plain happy with what I have and where I am regardless of the lack of sleep and my aching feet. Maybe this is just a phase I am going through. Who knows, maybe in a month or so I'll slow down.

Had a brief discussion on the STF9094 reunion thingy. It has to be done earlier than expected because 'orang kuat kita Cik Idlan' can't make it on September. Doesn't matter. Lagi cepat lagi bagus... get it over with. Have many plans cuma kurang kakitangan to help out. I guess when people have other commitments (husband, work, children) they just don't have the time or energy to busy themselves with things they can do without. Well, me and Yan will try within our means to make it an event to remember (Insyallah).

For me, Valentine's is just any other day... it comes and goes...

Iris

And I’d give up forever to touch you
’cause I know that you feel me somehow
You’re the closest to heaven that i’ll
Ever be
And I don’t want to go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
’cause sooner or later it’s over
I just don’t want to miss you tonight

And I don’t want the world to see me
’cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can’t fight the tears that ain’t
Coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you’re alive

And I don’t want the world to see me
’cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
’cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
’cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

The title, Iris, is not mentioned even once in this song. Love the tune... love the lyrics. LOVE the person who sings it.. :D

The one where I went back to school

This entry seems a bit outdated but what the heck.... I went to STF for the Bandcamp (22-24 January 2004.) It was organized by the STF Band Alumni and being one of them I volunteered myself and went along.. It was great to be back.

Dont really have much to say abt the bandcamp. We were there to lift their spirits and we managed to do that (I hope). And we also lifted our spirits as well... I went back home all fiery inside. It was good to meet up with friends and be back at the familiar place I knew so well. I was like coming home..

I expected to feel all alien and strange coming back after 10 years. But what I felt surprised even myself. It didnt feel strange, it just felt so right. Like I belonged there somehow... Everything felt so familiar and comfortable. We had a midnight drill for the kids and I sat at the basketball court at 2am, staring at the star-filled sky. I was trying to transport myself 10 years back and I could almost feel that I was there. The buildings were welcoming, the breeze so warm and cosy, my friends around so comforting. I was back in my schooling days. No problems, no worries... just me taking care of myself amidst this wonderful bunch of peers.

The kids in school must have thought that we (the alumni) have not matured. They must have expected us to be more "adult", serious, solemn, sober...etc. But we are what we are. No time can change what we really are or how we really feel inside. There is a child in all of us. To outgrow that child is a sad thing and I am glad that the child within me is still alive regardless of what people say or expect.

I can see it in the students' eyes that they want to break away from the clutches of the school, they want to grow up and lead their lives. I just hope they are aware that beyond the school gates, real life awaits them. But while I was in the safe haven of my school during those 3 days, I felt that come what may... I have my friends to be behind me. That was what STF is all about, belonging to a group of people who would back you up because you are one of them. Outside, you are own your own...

Al-Fatihah

Amin...
